CyFi Film Festival 2018 / Press Release

GeekOtopos Collaborative Hive proudly presents the CyFi Film Fest, the first film festival in Cyprus that will open up on the 24th of May and specializes in the fantastic; sci-fi, fantasy, horror and action! Alongside the feature length and short films, the festival will also host focused seminars presented by professionals from the film industry. The event is organised with help of the Youth Board of Cyprus, Taco Bell and Eyekon Comic Con.

 

The festival will run alongside the Eyekon Comic Con, happening at European University Cyprus. The main screenings of the festival will take place in the Orbis Open Air University Amphitheater during the Eyekon Comic Con.

 

We are also proud to announce that we’ve invited our very own Anglo-Cypriot compatriot and world-famous concept illustrator for film and fantasy books,

Chris Achilleos (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Achilleos). Chris Achilleos has created posters, concept designs and covers for some of the most important franchises of the last 30 years (HEAVY METAL, WILLOW, DOCTOR WHO, STAR TREK). The artist himself will present his work during the festival and his very own master class during the Eyekon Comic Con at 18:00 on the 26th of May.

 

So consider this your official invitation to join us in embracing the inaugural

CyFi Film Fest on the 24th of May by celebrating the first Geek Pride Day in Cyprus with a parade hosted at The Mall of Cyprus – Nicosia in cooperation with Taco Bell. Firstly, we will all gather at the Mall of Cyprus from where we will march while proudly declaring “Geek is the new Cool” (which it is!), on our way to K-Cineplex for a special, island-first, secret premiere of one of the most hotly anticipated films of the year that has been delivered to us from a galaxy far, far away! After the screening Taco Bell will host an after party at its downtown restaurant where we will live stream our first reactions and ruffle a Han Solo collectors figure worth 280€ by Gamers’Boulevard.
